A new Keyword in the new year

As the saying goes, the only constant is change.

Yep, change is inevitable, especially when you're running a new business. With the New Year upon us, a year of learnings under our belt, and with me taking the reigns of Keyword, there's no better time to announce some changes that I'm super excited about and that I think you'll love. Here's what you can expect from Keyword in the coming months:

A renewed focus on moms

Early in 2016, I wrote a post about the next business revolution being ignited, not by machinery or technology, but by women starting their own businesses. That single post struck a cord with so many of you who have since reached out to me to share your own business ideas, lament the state of Corporate America, or just thank me for providing a dose of inspiration. Those responses meant the world to me and it really got me thinking about the number of women who aspire for the same thing that I do - a career where I get to call the shots, contribute financially to my household, and gain the flexibility to work on my terms.

So, Keyword's going all-in to focus on moms who are starting their own businesses. If you're committed to your family and your career, believe in something other than a 9-5 job, and if your work day really gets going after the kids go to bed, then you're in the right spot.

After all, Keyword was built for creators, builders, self-starters, and problem solvers and if that doesn't describe moms to a 'T,' I'm not sure what else does.

A stronger online presence

Maggie and I learned really early on that we were going to have to do something different if we wanted to help more small business owners overcome their biggest marketing challenges. After all, there's only so much we can do between the two of us and a full-time job. So, I'm ramping up Keyword's online presence with the goal of getting my experience and expertise into the hands of more people more often. That means a revamp to our website with more content, more workshops, and maybe even an online course. I still plan to take on one-on-one consulting projects, but you'll find me more in your inbox, on our website, or on Facebook and Twitter.  If you're not following us on social media or signed up on our email list, there's no better time than the present.

More of my family life

I've been keeping my personal life pretty separate from Keyword over the last year - atleast from an online perspective. But, over the last few months I've been experimenting by adding more and more of my daily life into my blog or social media posts and the results have been pretty positive. In fact, after reviewing the analytics behind our social media, it turns out that my personal posts have the highest engagement. So, I'm going to keep at it and see what happens.

Plus, it just makes sense. A growing a business is a lot like raising a baby and in today's hyper-connected world, there are no boundaries between work and life. Work is life and life is work. For example, I'm typing this post at the dining room table while I help my son build a Lego set while I help my daughter put shoes on her Barbie doll (over and over and over again). And, that's real life, that's how work gets done sometimes, and that's something that you deserve to see because that's what starting a business around your family is all about.

With that being said, here's a quick pic of my family sans our dog. I hope you'll get to know them in the coming months.

I love and hate this picture all at the same time. I love that we're all laughing - there's so much joy and happiness in this picture that my heart just wants to burst. But, underneath all that laugher is pure exhaustion. You can see it in  tho…

I love and hate this picture all at the same time. I love that we're all laughing - there's so much joy and happiness in this picture that my heart just wants to burst. But, underneath all that laugher is pure exhaustion. You can see it in  those tired eyes and dark circles. I've never had a picture taken that captures real life so much as in this picture. And, I love it.

So, what do you think? I hope you as excited for these changes as I am and that you'll continue on this journey that we've started together. May 2017 be a year for the record books!
